Civic Spaces for Exchange
2012, Far Rockaway was exposed to severe damage from hurrcain Sandy.
This project is a proposal for a community center that transforms into a emergency shelter when in the event of 50 or 100 year flood. Considering the chances of actually experiencing a flood, the building mainly performs as a community center for high school students.
The Far Rockaway neighbourhoods needs to be financially, economically, and ecologically improved. The community center aims to provide workshops and educational spaces for students to explore opportunities for civic engagement and youth development programs that advance social equity and the physical well being of the vibrant community.
